Thomas K asked:
I’ve seen American textbooks address this issue, but I’m curious to how different England’s perspective on the issue was.

XCalibur (Black Bloc) asked:
I was reading some History textbooks on early American history when I found a huge lack of information in the text. Christopher Columbus did not cope with the natives, him and his slaves enslaved them, and put them to work in cotton fields, mining gold, and other things. The pilgrims did not come to the Americas in search of new land. They came because of their want of gold! The texbooks don’t mention any thing on this and what kind of person Columbus was. They don’t even say how he paid for the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria.

Gone asked: In the 19th century, the British defeated China and took over the island of Hong Kong. The British conquered Arab, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, Korea, and occupied India. The British invaded Africa and enslaved tens of millions of Blacks. The British occupied N. America and killed tens of thousands of Native Americans, and tens of thousands more died from relocation, diseases, and other hardships. The British wrote the dirtiest, bloodist, and ugliest page in human history—the British Century.
To what extent are the above discussed in the textbooks, and are those statistics mentioned in the books? Thanks.
Oh, sorry, I thought conquer=defeat. Now, I have realized conquer=occupy.
Anyway, thank you for pointing out my error, parrotjohn.

Sassy asked:
I know there is a lot of history to cover in class but I always felt cheated not to have something of significance relating to my culture or ancestor’s contributions to this country. If I was lucky there would be one or two paragraphs in my textbook. It made me dismiss history as a “useless” class. What do you think?
Yeah college history classes made me appreciate the subject much more. And thats not even for my cultural group but in general. It was like, WOW this stuff has meaning in my real life.
