The Iron Star asked: I may be interested in gaining some minimal command of the Turkish language, but I’m looking for something beyond the “travel phrasebook” sort of thing.
What are good books that one would use? (Perhaps like something that one would use in an introductory language class for college-educated people.)
I am a native speaker of English and have no background in any Eastern European or Middle Eastern languages.

Sue asked: Do I have to write words that are written in British English in American English if I quote them or should I leave them in British English?
One of my textbooks in school is written in British English, should my quotations be changed? I’m talking about words like “organise” or “realise” (= organize, realize).

My school doesn’t offer AP Japanese Language so I will be studying on my own. I am currently a sophomore and I plan to take the exam at the end of my senior year. To plan ahead, I just wanted to know if the Genki series will cover all of the material on the AP Japanese exam. How many hours of study should I expect?

I have so many books to buy. Unfortunately they cost quite a bit. I’m specifically looking to buy Basic Italian, 7th edition by Speroni. I don’t need the tapes since I took them out of the library already, but I don’t want to pay $160 for the book alone. I’m looking for the cheapest price and the best quality textbook online. Are there any sites that you recommend?

This might be good for a foreign language teacher to answer. I am studying. I am pretty much proficient in Spanish–understand about 100% when people speak Spanish, they understand me, and I understand about 95% when I read the Spanish newspapers. I’m not great with grammar. Would doing those grammar exercises in textbooks help? They are so boring and out of context.
