Is it right to include stories in textbooks just because they are “multicultural sensitive”?

The district that chose a textbook featuring Obama says they did so because of the multicultural relevance of the feature. What is more important- the great literature works of history or multicultural relevance? Shouldn’t multicultural students also learn of great works of history or is that privilege just reserved for white students?
