Try to buy books "off-season" if at all possible. Treat your books gently, and you can resale them again when you are done. BTW...I bought a $180.00 A&P book last spring. I used it one semester, and then when I went back to take A&P II, the bookstore told me I needed to buy the new version (another $180.00.) It doesn't end there, AFTER I opened my new book and CD, I went to class.
