“Helping each other afford college.”
“We all gotta buy books somehow.”
“Because we can’t pay those crazy bookstore prices.”
Use the feeling among college students that all are in it together. Also, the feeling that they are using networking to beat the system, like sharing music. And, that there is no embarrassment among college students about being poor — everyone is poor and everyone knows it. (Those who aren’t because they get everything from mom and dad aren’t interested in your used books anyhow.)
