I used my psych textbook as a source for a paper. The textbook does not cite a source for the info I took?
epitome of innocence asked:
I used a definition of a term(Repression), but in my own words, from the textbook. The textbook does not cite the source for the definition… they do cite a source after giving an example.

It has to be in APA format. Should I cite the authors of the textbook? Or use the next citation?

I .would cite the author from the textbook personally, because that is your source isn’t it.
Good Luck

Site the author of the text book. That is where you found the words that you paraphrased right? If someone wants to know the original citation they will know to look in the textbook and see that there are other sources they must find. In my experience being a psych major we were not allowed to count text books as a source. We could still use them but they didn’t count towards the final source number. Just something to keep in mind if your guidlines are similar.
