I want to buy a textbook, however the ISBN number is different?
Claudia asked:
The book is coming overseas. The title, picture and edition are the same as the requirements listed on my class syllabus.
Is it possible that publishers give different ISBN when the book is printed in another country?
thanks

Yes, that could be the reason. Also maybe the book was tailored for a certain school or something. That is what happened to me once. Same edition and everything but since if was tailored to a certain school, it had a different ISBN. But being overseas could be the major part of it though. lil’ miss

Often times a publisher will create an “international” edition of a textbook, but they are the same as the “base” book. Can you provide an example? There are currently two ISBNs for every textbook, an ISBN 10 and an ISBN 13. These ISBNs should be very similar, as the ISBN 13 will generally be the ISBN 10 preceded by 978. Also, the last digit of the ISBN can be different. This is the “check digit” of the ISBN. When the last digit of the ISBN is different, it usually means that the same book was published by different publishers. Cory
