Let’s assume I make a website where I sell or post Spanish textbook translations. Is it illegal?

you need permission from the original authors of the textbooks

This is a very interesting question. If you’re translating textbooks directly, you’ve definitely got some copyright issues to contend with. I agree with the former answer, but I would contact the publisher directly to see if you could arrange some kind of contract.

First and foremost, before you do anything else, contact a lawyer and get some legal advice. This is a little more serious than Yahoo Answers but I’m excited to see you wanting to give back to students!
