Of course you will have problems with understanding the textbook when you believe it is boring. Good work in any area takes positive conviction, enthusiasm and dedication to the subject at hand. You seem like an Intelligent person. What you need is a positive attitude and once you have that, you will see how much easier the assignment will be. I'm the same way. I love reading, but I hate reading text books. So trick yourself into doing the work. Do you own the textbook? If so, take a highlighter as you're reading. It will help you stay focused, and even if you space out you'll have highlighted sections to look over later to direct your reading. Also, skim the reading and look for the terms from your assignment. Mark down where in the book you find them. Then, go through and read those specific sections very carefully with a specific focus on gleaning out the important information about the term. Do the work as you’re reading the textbook.

Write down the important points in different colored markers (its fun and helps stimulate your brain!) Also draw pictures of concepts along with your notes helps too! (for example if your vocab work is osmosis draw a cute little picture of it in your notes - its just for you so it doesn't have to be perfect! I used these techniques for college biology and chemistry. I actually taped the notes to my wall by my bed so I would see them every day! Weird, but I got all A's! Also, if you don't get a certain concept, look it up on the internet. There are a LOT of good websites that explain science terms and concepts with graphics, videos and easier explanations than you might find in a textbook. Good luck to you!
