Answers please =D asked:

I’m about to be a college freshman and I don’t have a lot of money for books. I have been looking at half.com and chegg.com and a few other sites.

I was hoping for some advice from other students that are experienced in buying books. Would it be a better deal to pay for some gently used books now (off amazon or half.com) and try to sell them back later? Would I get any significant amount of it back?

Or should I just rent them from Chegg.com? or a similar site…

Also, how much does it matter about the edition? If I am supposed to get the 11th edition, would it matter if I used the 10th?

Sorry to sound cheap but I’m broke lol.
Thank you so much!
btw- I need 4 books.
One of them is $110 at my college book store. It is $70 at half.com. Renting it at chegg.com is $44 (plus $10 shipping but that is the price of shipping for 4 books combined). So we’ll say 46.50. So I save $23.50, but I don’t get to sell it back later.

All the other books are similarly priced. What would you recommend?

Purchasing Used Textbooks on Barnes & Noble?

zebras asked:

Has anyone ever purchased a used book from Barnes & Noble through an authorized seller? Did you like it? I know this may be a dumb question, but it says ships within 1-2 business days, does this mean it arrives at your house in 1-2 business days? Or that it is ready to leave their warehouse in 1-2 days? Well, here is what the website says if you care to interpert for me.

Usually ships within 2-3 days
This shipping message is used for in-stock merchandise stored in the warehouses of certain fulfillment partners that ship directly to our customers. It is also used for merchandise purchased from third-party suppliers that do not ship directly to customers on behalf of Barnes & Noble.com; this merchandise must first be delivered to a Barnes & Noble.com fulfillment facility, and then shipped to our customers.

I usually sell on Half.com, but they charge like 15% commission and don’t even give you all of the shipping back. Are there cheaper sites to sell on?

I’ve never heard of them and I don’t know if I want to buy from them. Is their shipping really as fast as it says (3 days)? Any other suggestions of where to buy cheaper textbooks, used or new, would be appreciated!

I have sold some books on half.com and I need to ship them soon. What is the best way to pack and ship them? Boxes? Bubble mailers?
To the 2nd poster: what if it rains? The books would get wet, wouldn’t they?

To both: I am sending 1-2 books at a time.

Also, I was thinking more along the lines of bubble mailers because they’re inexpensive and come in many sizes.
