Your professors will tell you which books to get when you go to class on the syllabus. As for where to get them, have you ever considered renting your textbooks? There's a company called Chegg.com that will let you rent the books for the semester for really cheap. When you're done, you just mail them back with the prepaid shipping label. They also sell used and new books. I also like Bookbyte.com. Had very good dealings with them.

If you are not in a hurry, abebooks.com is an excellent source for inexpensive text books. A caution, however: make sure the book you're interested in is the proper edition. If you're not sure, you can always ask the seller for more information about the book they have for sale.

Your professor will tell you what books to get. If you know who your professors are, contact them and tell them that you would like the book list so that you can have all your books prior to the start of the class.

Do not "guess" about what text books you will need. They often change from term to term, or even Professor to Professor. Some will require a specific "edition", and many text books have come out in many editions, even if most of the chapters, charts, pictures look the same.

What often changes is new material gets added, or questions in newer edition books change, so students cannot use the answers from a previous edition textbook, i.e, students passing down not only used books, but copies of answers for the used books.

The cheapest books are often advertised on student bulletin boards at the college union, dorms, or in student newpapers.
But, don't buy a used text books, until you find out what title and edition is needed for your class.

A good price for a used college text, is normally 1/2 of the original new price. College book stores often sell used books too, they buy back "used" books, but often resell them for 3/4th the price of new.
